Barbera d’Asti is one of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. The Barbera d’Asti title covers the area around the town of Asti, and exclusively focuses on red wines made from Barbera. Barbera is a dark-skinned wine grape variety found in several Italian wine regions (native: Piemonte).

The Barbera d’Asti Quattro Filari of Beppe Marino is a DOCG wine and famous for its high acidity. The wine has an intense woody fragrance, with flavors of cherry, plum and rosemary and some nuances of spice and pepper.

DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) is the highest classification for Italian wines. It denotes controlled (controllata) production methods and guaranteed (garantita) wine quality. There are strict rules governing the production of DOCG wines, most obviously the permitted grape varieties, yield limits, grape ripeness, winemaking procedures and barrel/bottle maturation. Every DOCG wine is subject to official tasting procedures. To prevent counterfeiting, the bottles have a numbered government seal across the neck.
