All we initially wanted was to stay in the Distillery Hotel, take a Masterclass and drink a lot of Gin. That was the plan… But… We were a bit late so when we wanted to book no rooms were available on the dates we planned our culinaric citytrip.

At least we could have some drinks at the bar, right?

Drinks

They offer different cocktails, but it is definitely a paradise for Gin lovers! They have so many Gins which is really impressive. Furthermore, they know a lot about this lovely juniper spirit and can recommend you excellent Gin & Tonics. They also serve their own Gin (various Portobello Gin’s) which we tried of course. But more about this in another post 🙂

Ambiance

Cool Gin pub with comfortable booths to hang out in. Quite busy and therefore sometimes a bit loud, but it is a place you definitely won’t be disappointed!

Service

Bar staff is absolutely fantastic. Although we were there on Friday evening, the service was great. They were chatting with everyone, giving you some insights on the drinks and making you feel really comfortable. On request they also quickly showed us the Ginstitute and King Henry, their 400L copper pot still, in which Portobello Gin is being made. Lovely! This staff really makes the place!

Price

quite high (£ 10 for a Gin & Tonic), but appropriate for the service you get

Portobello Gin

“Portobello Road No. 171” is a classic London Dry Gin with an alcoholic strength of 42%. In this Gin only traditional botanicals and spices are used. Combined with a Fever Tree Tonic water and botanicals like juniper berries and an orange peel it tastes like heaven! But there is not only the Road No. 171. They have several variations, like an Old Tom version or a Smoky Gin. The Smoky Gin’s taste is intense, definitely not for everyone but I love it!
